Rev. Dr. Stan G. Duncan

My friend and colleague, Peter Johnston, has asked me to write a letter on his behalf to the Committee on the Ministry, something I am more than happy to do. Peter, as I’m sure you know, is an enormously gifted and experienced (though unordained) pastor who has served many churches in many capacities for many years.

He has served as youth director, office administrator, music director, and—now at Quincy Point—Interim Associate Pastor. One could call him (though not quite accurately) a “late bloomer” because he has worked in almost every conceivable capacity in churches across Eastern Massachusetts before finally deciding that a fully educated, ordained minister would be his final goal.

He was called to Quincy Point about two years ago when our previous pastor was declining in health and needed assistance, and he has done incredible work since then in holding the church together (on a part time salary) while she continued to be able to do less and less. I have been here for only about two months but have been daily impressed with his skills, wisdom, energy, commitment, and caring. I’ve worked with a number of interns and field placements and fully ordained associates, but I’ve never worked with someone I felt so comfortable with as a competent and experienced colleague and co-pastor.

I know that you know most of this already, and that my brief note will not be a deciding element in his work, but I do feel I owe it to Peter for a larger audience to know fully how much he is appreciated and respected in this local church community. Quincy Point would be at a very dangerous, precarious point in its developmental life right now, had he not come in when he did and had not done as much to revitalize them as he did. He gets my full and complete affirmation and admiration.

Blessings,

Rev. Dr. Stan Granot Duncan
